Contributing to spousal or common-law partner RRSPs

Contributions you make to a spousal or common-law partner’s RRSP reduce your RRSP deduction limit.

If you cannot contribute to your RRSP because you are over the age of 71, you may still be able to contribute to your spouse’s or common-law partner’s RRSP if you have unused contribution room and your spouse or partner is under the age of 71.

Funds in an RRSP cannot be moved or transferred to an RRSP that does not have the same annuitant as the RRSP. For example, you cannot transfer funds in your RRSP to a spousal or common-law partner RRSP.
